Building on Experience and Success…
Our Award Winning Curriculum in combination with our Enrichment and Student Engagement philosophy provides students with an unprecedented learning experience. Each student receives individualized attention and an academic foundation that prepares them for advancement and success. Students receive the tools they need to be life-long learners.
Pre-K is a time of rapid growth and development. It’s a year of preparation for kindergarten and for future success in school and life. To achieve children need to be imaginative, independent, and actively involved in their own learning. And, The London Day School provides an opportunity to do just that. Students are given the opportunity to create and deconstruct, to work in teacher-led activities, in small groups and individually. Additionally, more focus is given to strengthening the skills that have previously been developed in the areas of pre-reading and math, with an introduction to a more formal award-winning handwriting program. Music, Physical Education, Science, Library and Spanish are also part of our daily program. At this age, our students also begin expanding their knowledge of the world around them by working with My Big World, an award winning publication that addresses topics of interest through a colorful magazine designed specifically for Pre-K and Kindergarten students.
In addition to regular daily enrichment classes, students in our Pre-K program have the opportunity to explore the world through Social Studies and Science during theme days that introduce students to topics such as the Rainforest and Space. They have the time to explore these topics in depth with theme related activities that engage and challenge them.
Character Education continues to be a cornerstone in our Pre-K class and at this age we are teaching our students that the world is bigger than their family and classroom. We ask students to think about those who are in need and to think creatively on how we can support them. Our students become responsible for bringing our community outreach projects to life by selecting, promoting and running the project. In addition to creating a social awareness, this process introduces students to presentation skills and becoming comfortable with speaking in front of others. Students are also given the opportunity to be mentors to students in younger classes through planned activities.
On a daily basis, our students build on their skills to become socially, emotionally, and intellectually confident.
